Marriage/Family Relations 24000- This class discusses the aspects that make up a family.  Also it talks about different types of relation ships, and how they exist with eachother.

                            Chapter 5 love on Television
I have an obsession with this show called the vampire diaries. There are three relationships I want to analize. The couples are damon and elena, elena and stephen, and matt and caroline. I
have watched their relationships grow as the season goes on. I would just like to state that the relationships that they have now could change and have already changed from when they first began. A relationship style is based on the couple not in the individual. Before I tell you about the characters relationships I shoul tell you what type of love relationships there are. There are six main styles. There is Eros which means a romantic or passionate love. Ludus which means playeful or game playing love. Storage which is compassionate or friendship love. Then there is mania which is a combination of ludus and eros. Mania is an obsessive love that is characterized by a love hate relationship. There’s agape which is a combination of storage and eros. Agape is an altruistic love. Then last we have Pragma which is a combination of storage and ludus. Pragma is a practical, pragmatic style of love. Damon and Elena have a Mania love. Elena loves Damon but doesn’t want to, and Damon loves her so much he would kill for her. Stephen and Elena have a Agape relationship. They love eachother, and are compassionate. They also are very playful. They are the kind of couple that you are jealous of. Then we have Matt and Caroline who have a storage love. They are best friends, but over the years have grown to love eachother as more than friends. They can still talk to eachother about everything.

I had to compare love on television and what type of relationships people were in.  Alot of relationships on television are mania.  Also a relationship is not defined on one person it has to do with the couple as a whole.

                         Chapter 3 Ethnic Families
A stereotype is an over simplified or biased mental picture that held to characterize the typical individual of a group. Ethnic families are
heavily stereotyped. The ones that are most speculated about are African Americans, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, and Europeans. I will admit that when I think about these different races I have an idea that comes to mind first, even though I know it is not true. For African American families I have no stereotypes because my dad’s sister is adopted and she is african American, and so are my cousins. I do have a stereotype that comes to mind though when I think anout Latino families. For some reason I think that they would live in the bad part of town and be criminals. The reason that I have this idea is that my grandmother lives in Rosepark, and she has been mugged by a Latino man, and her house has been broken into. The majority of the population down there is Hispanic. I know that this is a wrong stereotype, because I am half Hispanic, and I am not a criminal. I live in a good neighbor hood, and am good at school. For Asian family’s I always believed that they would have arranged marriages, like in the 1600’s in china. I know this idea is wrong obviously, because that is no longer legal in the united states, but I have seen so many movies where that is what happened. One example is the movie The Joy Luck Club. I also have this idea of how Native American’s live. When ever I think of Native Americans I always think of Reserves. I think I got this idea when I was about 7 due to the fact that I once went on a relief project to help provide a reserve with clothes and food. My idea isa wrong, but that is just something that stuck with me since I was little. It is not good to have a stereotype, because the truth is that you never know anything about anybody until you ask them. Ethnic families live their lives just like everybody else. How people turn out is how they choose, and what their enviroment and family teaches them.

This essay is on how people view other racial family's.  This made me realize that I already had an idea of how different ethnic groups live.  I now understand why so many people get racially stereotyped.
